How we field the Top 10 in any city.

Our editorial line-up — the criteria each venue must meet before we hand it a place on the team sheet.

  • 1

    Sound — on, always

If a manager has to be asked to "turn the commentary up", the venue is benched.

  • 2

    Screens you can actually see

We line-of-sight every booth. No pole obstructions, no half-cropped score bugs.

  • 3

    A real menu past half-time

Kitchens open all 90. Bonus mark for a proper Sunday roast or post-match arepas.

  • 4

    Atmosphere over decor

We weigh chants per minute heavier than how many scarves hang on the wall.

  • 5

    Welcomes neutrals

Door policy must not gate-keep by colours. We name & shame those that do.

  • 6

    Honest pricing

Match-day surcharges are flagged. A £9 pint with no warning is an instant red card.

  • 7

Toilets that survive a 1-1 draw

Half-time stress test. If you can't queue, dispatch and exit in five minutes, it fails.

  • 8

    Booking option

Walk-ups respected, but a transparent table-reservation system gets bonus points.

  • 9

    Multi-fixture support

Bonus for venues that run more than one channel at once with a fixture board.

  • 10

Doesn't kick you out at 5pm

The match isn't over when the final whistle blows. Post-match dwell is graded.

  • 11

    Owned by humans

We weight independents over chains. Founders' stories belong on the team sheet.

Notebooks from the road.

Our scouts file long-form notes from every city they hit. These are the editor's recent picks.

The half-time questions, answered.

Is FanZone Map free to use?

Yes. Always. We don't take affiliate fees from venues and we don't sell rankings. Editorial independence is the entire point.

Why these five nations?

The United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Ireland have the deepest supporter cultures around traveling fans and the most timezone challenges. We will expand only when we can do a city justice.

How do you rank venues?

See The Starting XI. Eleven criteria, weighted, applied by a human editor who has actually been to the venue.

Can a venue pay to be added?

No. A venue can pay to be removed faster if there is a factual error. They cannot pay to be added or to climb the ranking.

How often is the map updated?

Weekly. The dossier banner shows the issue number and the matchday it last shipped on.

Where do you source the photography?

Field scouts and freelance photographers we credit on every image. We never use AI-generated venue interiors.
